Why-five? volume I

It is completely normal to question ideas that could potentially shake the earth to its core. This High Five Extravaganza 2008 is a prime example of one of these ideas. So the natural and obvious response to this is to answer some of the burning questions that our readers may encounter.

Who are the brilliant minds behind this?
Justin Baker, UMass Lowell student
Charlette Renault-Caragianes, UMass Lowell student

What is this event really about, aside from hand slapping?
Justin and I have been faced with an enormous task: Solve a wicked problem that is prevalent in our times and society. While some may see the state of the economy, or the impending doom that will come if global warming persists as the most wicked problems of the day, Justin and I see a bigger problem. Our aim is to slay the dragon that is SocialAlienation. If members of our society cannot take the time to turn off their iPods, log off of Facebook, introduce themselves to their neighbors, or go and vote (and I'm not talking about this historic presidential election, but the smaller ones that are held for city office, state office, etc.), what is to say that groups of people will get together to revitalize the world at large?
Inviting our peers to participate in the hand-slapping-good-time is really a thinly veiled attempt to get our fellow student, and/or fellow human, to be more engaged in solving all sorts of problems that everyone is being confronted with at this juncture in time.

When and where will the extravaganza take place?
Be in the quad on South Campus on Wednesday, December 10th. The time is TBA but we welcome any feedback or suggestions on a time that would allow all interested parties to attend.

What's in it for me?
Images of you making contact with other people will appear on this blog and you may get a sweet t-shirt out of it.

If you're curious, concerned, excited, or a little lonely--feel free to comment with your thoughts and questions.

save the date

You don't have to tell me twice--I know that National High Five Day is in April but I simply cannot wait until then. What I am proposing is this:
High Five Extravaganza 2008
to take place on Wednesday, December 10th.
Hurry back,
this is only the beginning.
